West Humboldt Park Center for Performing Arts
has a new home!
WHPCPA is the proud owner of a new home donated by Cronus Properties located at 538 North Central Park. Executive Director Marti Foster says, "We also are working with the owners of 540 North Central Park building and expect property ownership."
These two buildings will house WHPCPA's unique west side performing arts training programs for children ages 4 to 10 in music lessons for guitar and violin. Expanding from our existing ensemble to a 40 piece children's string orchestra is one of our future plans. WHPCPA also offers, a summer theater camp and a fall drama club for children ages 8 to 16.
Acquiring these side by side buildings, will allow WHPCPA to combine the second floors creating a rehearsal hall for the various programs and summer camp. "After the buildings are gutted and combined, we will have plenty of space to conduct our programs."
says Mary Gordon, Chairman of the Board of Directors. She further states, "This also means another safe haven for our kids and a place for them to grow and learn without fear of being approached from gangs and local drug dealers."
WHPCPA serves the children of the Harrison 11th police district one of Chicago highest crime areas. Ms Foster further states, "We have been operating for fifteen years in West Humboldt Park and have seen the children in our programs grow to adults and use the skills we have taught to improve their lives." |
