Book illustrationSusan’s Danish grandmother taught her the basic knit stitch at a tender age, her German grandma further enabled her needlework, and as an adolescent she became obsessed with knitting.Godey 1870

With a firm belief that life is not in proper order without a pair of hand knitted socks in progress, she has never since been without a knitting project. In 2001 she delved into the serious study of knitting history during doctoral studies in Textiles and Clothing at Iowa State University. And now she is knitting her way through all the historical projects in Knitting America, writing proper instructions that call for exquisite fibers.

Susan lives in Oak Park, Illinois. During the summer, she knits in Seattle.
